Bachelor of Commerce is an undergraduate course in
India that takes three years to completeBachelor of
Commerce (B.Com) is a three-year under-graduate course modelled to
offer the student with a number of management skills and at the same
time also building in them proficiently in a specific area. The
Bachelor of Commerce may cover the same coursework as a Bachelor of
Business Administration (BBA), except that it places more emphasis
on theory and business principles as compared to the other course. A
majority of the universities prepare the Bachelor of Commerce degree
in such a way that the student is exposed to common business
principles, and afterwards, to particular comprehensive theory.
Bachelor of Commerce degree can be pursued by a student after
successful completion of HSC examination in science or commerce
stream. There is no entrance examination for admission into Bachelor
of Commerce degree. Students are however admitted according to their
merit with regard to their HSC examination results. One can go for
proper academic major or not depending on the university or
institution. But this course calls for a student to choose a
majority of the courses relating to business depending on the
interest of the student like Financial Accounting and Auditing,
Banking and Finance, Economics, Actuarial science, Business
Management, Foreign Trade Practice & Procedures, B.Com can be done
with vocational subjects like Insurance, Advertising and Tourism,
Auditing and Cost Accounting, Law, Foreign trade practice and
procedures, Company Secretarial Practice, etc.
After completing the degree of Bachelor of Commerce, a student can
opt for various post-graduate programs including Master of Business
Administration (MBA) or the Master of Commerce (MComm). MBA degree
is generally recognised by a number of professional accounting
bodies, and therefore students after their graduation usually go for
accounting designations like the Chartered Accountant (CA),
financial qualifications such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
and Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
The prospect for the Bachelor of Commerce degree course is bright
and one can opt to start his/her career in various fields after
successful completion of this course. Banking sector is favourable
for commerce students to start their career. They can work as
Economists, can opt for job in the investment sector or can work as
